About Street to Drainfield

What this site is

Street to Drainfield is a publication that explains septic systems, private wells and house water for homeowners in Thurston County, Washington. The pages follow an ordinary lot from the street to the back of the yard: the meter or well house, the house and crawlspace, the water heater, the septic tank lids, and the drainfield.

What this site is not

This site is not a plumber, a septic company or a well driller. It takes no calls and books no work. It has no connection to any Thurston County plumbing firm with a similar name.

How the pages are made

Each page is built from public sources: Thurston County, the cities of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater, LOTT Clean Water Alliance, the Washington State Department of Health, the Department of Ecology, the Department of Labor & Industries, and the EPA, along with makers' manuals where a page covers equipment. Every source is listed on the page with the date it was read. When an official figure couldn't be confirmed, the page says so instead of guessing.

Photos are real where possible. Any picture made with AI is labelled as such beside the image.

Checking a page yourself

Rules, fees and inspection intervals change. Each page links the official pages it relies on, so you can open them and check the current wording before you act. Where a page and an agency disagree, go by the agency.

Some pages link to one of four businesses run by the same team as this site: PlumbingSupplyAndMore, a plumbing supply store; SoftPro and Quality Water Treatment, which sell water treatment equipment; and Central Plumbing & HVAC, a plumbing and HVAC service company in Bucks and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Wherever one of these links appears, the same-team relationship is stated right beside it. These links never change what a page says about rules, safety or when to call a licensed professional.
