Street to Drainfield
The lot

The drainfield at the back of the lot

The drainfield is where the tank's liquid soaks into the soil, and in a wet western Washington winter that soil can already be close to full. Keep cars, roof water and new structures off it, learn the warning signs, and know what help the county lists if it needs repair.

Thurston County's care pages ask owners to keep vehicles, livestock and structures off the drainfield and to send roof and driveway water away from it. Wet ground after heavy rain is common; ground that stays soggy or smells of sewage is a warning sign. See drainfields in a wet winter, the signs of failure, and, if repair is coming, the county grant, rebate and loan options on repair help.
